Client Story – Poor Sleep, Anxiety & Stress

by

In our Spring blog we thought it might be good to hear about a client’s journey with Neurofeedback. Stress and anxiety are common ‘conditions’ of modern life, some of it might be considered necessary and even healthy. But with relentless pressures to do well at home and work, our mental and sometimes physical, health can be adversely affected.

This client originally contacted us because of her demanding role as a Company Director and the fact that she was bringing her work problems and stresses home with her. She was finding it difficult to fall asleep and when she did she invariably found that she would wake throughout the night which then led her to need to go to the toilet, and her sleep was further disturbed. That’s when her brain would be on overdrive and she’d start going through all the difficulties at work, as well as at home and her sleep pattern became completely out of sync. In the morning she would be unrested, tired and irritable. This sleep/wake cycle continued and her stress levels rose further to the point where she knew that she had to take action. She was aware of the potential risks to her physical health or compromised sleep and thankfully realised she needed to do something about it before it got any worse.

In her first session, we worked on the areas of the brain which have a calming effect on the brain. She reported that even on this first night she was able to fall asleep relatively easier than on previous nights. She still woke up during the night but trying to get back to sleep wasn’t so difficult as it had been and she quickly fell asleep again. As her therapy journey continued and we established her training frequency her sleep pattern improved dramatically. I added additional sites to her treatment plan to further balance her brain and enable the brain’s innate self-healing capacity; her brain was now self-regulating. We ask clients to complete a Symptom Tracker prior to starting sessions and we can monitor a wide variety of symptoms; when we did this monitoring, we could clearly see the amazing impact on her sleep: she was now falling asleep quickly and staying asleep right through the night. Her stress levels were markedly reduced and she acknowledged she was dealing much better with difficult situations at work. She was more level-headed and could solve problems more easily. The specific goal was reached that my client was no longer taking her work problems home with her and the knock on effect was a much improved home life.
