Who We Help

Please find below some information about the type of issues we frequently treat.   Neurofeedback is a wonderful therapy for Anxiety, Depression, Pain, PTSD and many other issues.  It originated as a therapy for epilepsy and ADHD and has progressed into a universal therapy for many other conditions including Traumatic Brain Injury, Addictions, Insomnia and Stroke.  Bio-resonance is also a powerful natural therapy for anxiety and depression, but can help you with a variety of health concerns such as allergies, nutrition, pain, injury, toxicity and detox.  This is just an example, please contact us directly to discuss your specific concerns.   Our intake process includes a self-rated list of symptoms which may cross over one or more of the following categories.

Therapy for ADHD and ADD

If you have a diagnosis or suspect ADHD, you’ll be aware of the many difficulties which can be pervasive and persistent, impacting everyday life.   According to The Lancet, symptoms of ADHD can continue into adulthood in more than three-quarters of cases.  ADHD and ADD are generally characterised by developmentally inappropriate levels of inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity.  Both conditions are often found to have knock-on negative effects at school and employment, in the home and with relationships; they can lead to comorbid conditions such as addictions and depression.  ADHD is on the rise, some literature suggests a 30% increase in cases in the last 10 years.  An analysis of the causes suggest environmental, genetic, developmental or pharmacological.  ADHD is known as a difficult condition to treat, but from the many requests for help we have received, we have seen extremely positive results.

Neurofeedback therapy for ADHD has been the subject of decades of research.  This research shows that regulating brain function significantly reduces the severity of symptoms.  As such there is improved attention, diminished hyperactivity, and enhanced executive function, including improved working memory.  One of the many benefits of neurofeedback for ADHD is its calming effect without conscious effort or control.  Many people with ADHD find it difficult to self-soothe and engage with calming practices; but neurofeedback calms the nervous system unconsciously, allowing for greater executive control.  Infra-Low Frequency (ILF) Neurofeedback works with your unique set of symptoms, focussing on the specific part of your brain that requires training.  It is a safe and natural therapy and highly effective with both children and adults.  As your brain continues to train more symptoms will improve; and thanks to neuroplasticity your brain will learn to maintain these positive changes.

Therapy for Autism

One of our most asked questions, is whether neurofeedback helps autism.   Yes it does!  We’ve seen much improvement in our clients’ clinical symptoms and also the alleviation of associated symptoms such as depression.  We’ve helped treat many clients with an autism diagnosis including young children and non-verbal clients.   Our therapies are designed to offer individualised treatment options to all clients, it isn’t a blanket approach.

The symptoms of autism can range from mild to severe.  Typically a person on this wide spectrum might be highly anxious, have difficulties with sleep, use stimming as a calming method or be hyperactive with emotional outbursts.  There are likely to be difficulties with social interaction, close relationships and communication, school, work and obsessive-compulsive behaviours or highly focussed interests may also be present.  There are many other co-morbid conditions experienced by our autistic clients, such as depression, global delay, PTSD, grief or addiction and both neurofeedback and bio-resonance therapies guide us in reducing many of these issues.  Some of the improvements we’ve seen include reduced anxiety, improved social communication, fewer outbursts and improved speech.

Autism affects the level of integration of brain function, particularly at the emotional core affecting social connection.  In autism there are developmental flaws in the structural connectivity of this emotion network.  However with neurofeedback this network is accessible to us and we can strengthen its connectivity.  Our sessions use EEG technology and computer software to correct brainwave abnormalities, leading to observable changes.   Also neurofeedback works very well with children due to the flexibility of their brains; it can prevent continued development into adulthood, of unwanted behaviours.  We often work with children and young people from pre-school to university undergraduates who sometimes prefer neurofeedback to more traditional therapies due to the reduced need for verbal interaction.

Neurofeedback can be a preferred choice to medication and has no side-effects; however emotions can be stirred briefly after a session and we do find that it’s beneficial to bring a family member or friend to sessions.  Some autistic clients need to return to us for ‘top-up’ sessions which are sometimes related to busy or stressful periods in their lives.

It’s also well-documented that the gut plays a major role in autism.  This may be related to the gut-brain connection and the presence or lack of certain bacteria.  But also more universally the behaviours around diet and eating.  Both effect brain function and can be detected with bio-resonance.  A non-invasive, natural therapy can be preferred by our autistic clients, especially children who may not be able to sit still during neurofeedback.  Therefore where desired, we can work with both therapies to identify other physiological issues implicated in autism, including vaccine injury or medication overload, allergies or toxins.  We can also help with some issues which may be difficult to communicate such as emotional or physical pain.  With bio-resonance we can send corrective frequencies to the parts of the brain and body affected by internal and external environmental factors.  Again we would recommend, where possible, that a close person plays a supportive role in the sessions in order to help with any detox effect and the reporting process which some autistic clients may find difficult.

Therapy for Emotional & Behavioural Problems

In this section we want to briefly summarise that emotional and behavioural problems can be very diverse.  They might be a common feature in your life or fluctuate at different times.    They can take the form of addictions, hoarding, depression, aggression, memory or speech problem as well as low self-esteem or lack of interest in socialising or intimacy.  The causes too can be wide ranging and some of these are discussed specifically elsewhere on this page.  However not everyone knows the origins of their problems so it’s helpful then that progression of Neurofeedback Therapy focusses initially on symptoms.  This is how you can monitor change.  However neurofeedback is working at the deeper processes within your brain to effect long-term improvement.

We would encourage you to think of neurofeedback therapy as a possible treatment option for any change in behaviour or emotions whether long-term or recently experienced.  This can also include symptoms associated with illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy or traumatic brain injury.

Therapy for Pain

Some sources say that one person in four suffers from chronic pain.  Experiencing constant pain can be very debilitating and cause negative effects not just throughout the physical body, but also psychologically.  Your work and income may be affected as well as family life, relationships and emotional health.  Some common chronic pain conditions are migraines and other headaches, fibromyalgia, cancer, nerve or muscle pain, and the pain associated with arthritis, bowel complaints and lower back.

There is evidence that there are differences in the neurophysiology of chronic pain sufferers.  Therefore, it follows that a treatment like neurofeedback, which directly targets brain activity, will be most beneficial in combatting pain.  In addition, many painful conditions originate from the stress response and neurofeedback is particularly good at reducing physiological and psychological tensions.  Many pain-related symptoms such as poor sleep, anxiety and depression can also be alleviated with neurofeedback, so it has a positive effect on the whole system.  If stress and trauma are at the root of chronic pain, we can also target this through the use of the Alpha-Theta protocol which accesses the subconscious, allowing it to do its natural healing work.  We would highly recommend neurofeedback for pain management in tandem with lifestyle and dietary changes where necessary.

What we are seeing quite spectacularly is the success of bio-resonance for pain.  We have literally seen a reduction or complete removal of pain using bio-resonance therapy.  We have helped people suffering fibromyalgia pain, nerve pain throughout the body and the pain associated with toothache, back pain, headaches, surgery and injury.  We have also seen immediate reduction in arthritic pain even where the inflammatory process has been long-term.  Bio-resonance for pain management has been shown to be very useful in part because it is tackling the root cause of pain – imbalances in the whole body which cause inflammation and degeneration.  The therapy itself is a very simple process.  Although the reduction of pain can be very quick, keeping the pain away requires changes in lifestyle such as avoiding inflammatory foods/drinks, taking light exercise and above all reducing stress in your life.

Therapy for Sleep & Fatigue

Problems with sleep are very common.  Most people have experienced an issue with sleep at some point in their lives.  Common causes of sleep problems are anxiety or depression, lifestyle and environmental factors such as alcohol intake or working patterns.  Lack of sleep or insomnia can affect your judgement, memory and concentration, eating and drinking habits and cause problems at home and work.  Fatigue is typically related to symptoms which are not alleviated by sleep.  It’s more likely that fatigue experienced by people who have chronic mental and/or physical illness, trauma or prolonged depression for example.  Although the causes of sleep and fatigue can be very similar, what often sets them apart is the severity of symptoms.  The rapid onset of fatigue can also indicate underlying health issues, sometimes diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Differentiating between the two is important to the neurofeedback process and our Symptom Tracker and assessment process will help to identify your specific issues.  Neurofeedback therapy targets the causes of your poor sleep such as physical and mental tension; these are common complaints preventing people from falling, and staying, asleep.  As treatment progresses it might be beneficial to use our Alpha-Theta therapy protocol which can help resolve any underlying trauma issues affecting your sleep.  Our experience shows that sleep problems can be quickly alleviated, with improvement in cognitive abilities and quality of life.

Therapy for Sports & Creative Performance

The development of Infra-Low Neurofeedback is modelled on optimum functioning and organic enhancement of existing brain function.  It’s non-prescriptive which means your brain is in charge without any interference from the practitioner; there are no pre-set aims other than the ‘goal’ of optimal performance.  The developers of this method (Susan and Siegfried Othmer) state that ‘dysfunction subsides by virtue of improved function’ and that there are no set limits, as seen with other methods of neurofeedback.  The brain is therefore free to continue to improve, reach and stay at peak performance, an equalled and important aim in terms of sport and any form of creativity.    Bio-resonance, rooted in quantum physics, is all about healing dis-ease which can interfere with performance, whether this is the result of life trauma, illness, strain or injury.

Any of the above might be at the root of reduced performance or loss of creativity.  It will depend on what you’re performing of course.  But looking at sports briefly, any kind of acute or chronic injury, illness or pain will impact your ability to maintain your standards or improve them.  The trauma of an injury may last beyond physical healing and result in fears around certain activities/exercise.  Both neurofeedback and bio-resonance can help your brain to heal your physical issues, as well as any related psychological problems.  Together with your usual fitness regime we would hope to reduce recovery time and increase your goals.  You might also consider either or both of our therapies, to improve on a skill you already perform at a high level, or to support a higher level of training or practice.  Artistic or cognitive skills may also be improved by either of our therapies, where feeling more present and grounded are required.  We look forward to helping you in your quest for peak performance.

Therapy for Anxiety & Stress

Stress (or Anxiety) affects us all at some point and might be regarded as an essential part of life.  But when it becomes chronic it can cause many unpleasant problems:  headaches, panic attacks, disturbed sleep or emotional reactivity.  It can negatively impact all areas of life, relationships, eating habits, sex life, work or study and sometimes culminate in diagnoses such as OCD or PTSD.  In addition, prolonged anxiety can affect the immune system and therefore contribute to health issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other gastrointestinal conditions, stomach ulcers, pain, cardiovascular disease or cancer.

The stress response involves specific parts of the brain: the amygdala which processes emotions and the hypothalamus which communicates with the nervous system to prepare for fight or flight.  But chronic stress suggests this fight or flight state has become permanent and is the condition from which problems arise.  It is often difficult to consciously self-soothe.  Thankfully neurofeedback is an excellent therapy for Anxiety as it targets this dysregulated nervous system, unconsciously returning it to a calm state.  Some of the early changes are often reported as better sleep with dreaming, less emotional reactivity, reduced pain and feeling happy.

Bioresonance is also a natural therapy for anxiety.

Therapy for Trauma, PTSD and CPTSD

Post traumatic stress syndrome is now very widely recognised as a group of symptoms which continues to cause problems long after a traumatic event has passed.  For example, the high anxiety, hypervigilance, disturbed sleep or reduced socialising are commonly experienced.  But at its extreme, PTSD can lead to very altered states, addictions, reduced functioning or dissociative identify disorder.  Prolonged emotional dysregulation can also weaken your immune system and disrupt normal physiological processes.  Most people are familiar with the effect of stress on the gut, but other associations have been made between anger and the liver, grief and lungs, worry and stomach, stress and heart and brain; and fear and kidneys.  Both of our therapies address the effects of trauma on the brain and body and have been shown to reduce or eliminate symptoms of PTSD.

We are often contacted by people finding Neurofeedback Scotland after reading ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk.  In his book van der Kolk recommends neurofeedback for the treatment of trauma.  Clients are seeking a non-invasive therapy for anxiety or sleep issues and for help with their relationships as the result of their trauma.  Many of them say neurofeedback is a ‘godsend’, even more wish they had found neurofeedback sooner!  The treatment often works quite quickly with clients noticing change in the very early sessions.

We are guided by your specific symptoms and place sensors over the area of the brain associated with the symptom.  This process can take several sessions during which your nervous system will begin to calm.  You expect you to notice less reactivity to triggers, to sleep better, to feel happier, and many people report feeling more present or a greater sense of well-being.  At an appropriate time in treatment, we will also use the protocols Synchrony and Alpha-Theta.  Where relevant we can introduce Deep Brain Reorienting (www.deepbrainreorienting.com) to help your brain safely and gently access and process traumatic memories.

Bioresonance can also help the symptoms of C/PTSD.  This is another non-invasive, natural therapy.  The L.I.F.E System can detect the areas which are out of balance as a result of the trauma you have experienced.  These ‘areas’ might be emotional, nutritional, physical or relational.  We can then direct healing frequencies to the relevant place to help your brain and body heal itself.  We’ve had the pleasure of seeing complete recovery in clients with long-term PTSD.
